A native Utahn, Mary Ellen Elggren has produced and guided hundreds of tours for over 30 years in Utah and across the United States and Canada including cultural heritage sites, faith-based tours, National and State Parks, and selected international tours. Retired from marketing her own tours, she works as an expert Salt Lake City step-on guide and also as a well-organized over-the-road tour manager, who can provide extensive color commentary that is engaging, entertaining and fun for all ages. As Director of a FamilySearch Center, she is also qualified to host and assist genealogy tour groups.

 She is a founder of the Utah Tour Guide Association, docent guide at the restored Utah State Capitol, and a Utah Heritage Foundation guide at the Governor’s Mansion, City and County Building, and other historic buildings. Featured as an expert historian in three separate television documentaries, her favorite and most recent is “Brigham Street, Salt Lake City’s Grand Boulevard” produced for the University of Utah and frequently aired as a fund raiser. She assisted in the successful effort to establish the Mormon Pioneer National Heritage Area, which extends from Salt Lake City all the way south to the Arizona border.

She serves on the executive board of Utah Pioneer Heritage Arts, the national board of the Sons of Utah Pioneers as Trek Advisor, and board chair of the Brigham Young Family Association. She has done special tours for the Governor’s office, and VIP groups such as the National Trust of Historic Preservation hosting their major donors in Utah.  In cooperation with the Utah Office of Tourism, she recently guided a tour of Southern Utah for the department heads of Utah State Cultural Affairs plus four national journalists who were preparing stories on the remarkable heritage tourism available in Utah.
